Women’s Studies Students Attend the 7th Annual National Young Feminist Leadership Conference!

While many ETSU students were relishing in the final days of Spring Break our Women’s Studies students were busy learning about and engaging in feminist activism at the 7th Annual National Young Feminist Leadership Conference hosted by the Feminist Majority Foundation. Students partnered with the campus group, The Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance , and attended the weekend conference in Washington D.C. from March 11 through March 13.

During the duration of the weekend students learned about issues ranging from the intersections between feminism and Lesbian-Gay-Bisexual-Transgender (LGBT) activism, to issues about women of color and reproductive justice, to how social media can be a tool for feminist activism, and more. Students were also able to speak with feminist activists from around the world who have secured incredible careers by pursuing their passion for social justice.  Additionally, amazing women such as U.S. Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis, D.C. Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton, the former Minister for Women’s Affairs of Iran Mahnaz Afkhami, and many more addressed the student attendees of the conference with powerful and inspiring speeches.

At the close of the weekend, Women’s Studies students were ready to head home and get to work on feminist activism within our own ETSU community; so keep an eye out for great events, speakers, and workshops that will be hosted by our Women’s Studies student leaders!

Women's Studies is an exciting, interdisciplinary area of study that celebrates women's lives. Our Leadership through Diversity focus promotes a creative struggle for justice and equality. We train graduates to be leaders in both civic engagement and the workforce. The Women's Studies Program at ETSU is comprised of dedicated faculty and staff and socially conscious students coming together from a wide range of disciplines.
